Alahan Monastery Evliya Çelebi described it as "looking like it just came out of a master’s hand." It is located near Geçimli Village on the Mersin-Karaman road, built on a steep slope 1300 meters above sea level overlooking the Göksu Valley. The spread of Christianity in Cappadocia and Likonya (Konya) involved followers being persecuted and fearing death by those who did not believe; believers in Jesus Christ were also forced to worship in caves and rock chambers in mountainous areas. St. Paul and Barnabas, prominent figures in early Christianity living in Tarsus, traveled adventurous routes to spread Christianity, reaching as far as Konya-Cappadocia and Antalya-Antakya. Lodgings were established everywhere they stayed, commemorating their visits. The Alahan Monastery is one of these commemorative sites.
